Aircon Not Cold?
Here's Why — and the Fix

In Singapore's humidity, most "not cold" issues come down to one of four things: a dirty evaporator coil, low refrigerant, a blocked filter, or a failing compressor. We diagnose on-site and fix it the same visit — usually in under two hours.

Common Causes

Why is your aircon not cold?

These four causes account for the vast majority of "not cold" aircon problems in Singapore. Knowing which one applies helps us fix it faster — but we'll confirm on-site before we start work.

Dirty evaporator coil
The most common cause in Singapore. Dust and mould build up on the indoor coil over time, insulating it and blocking heat exchange. The fan blows air, but it never gets properly cooled. Worse in humid conditions because moisture helps gunk stick.
Fix: Chemical wash
Low refrigerant (gas leak)
Refrigerant is the chemical that carries heat out of your room. If there's a slow leak in the refrigerant circuit, the system gradually loses cooling capacity. You might also notice ice forming on the indoor unit, or the compressor running constantly without effect.
Fix: Gas top-up + leak check
Blocked air filter
A clogged filter restricts airflow across the evaporator coil. Less air through the coil means less cooling delivered to the room. This is usually the first thing to check — filters should be cleaned every 3–4 weeks in Singapore. If the filter is far gone, it can also cause the coil to freeze.
Fix: Filter clean or chemical wash
Compressor or capacitor fault
The compressor is the heart of the cooling system. If it's failing — or if the start capacitor that kicks it on is worn out — the system runs but doesn't cool. This is typically more sudden and is more common in older units (8+ years). We'll diagnose and advise whether a repair or replacement makes more sense.
Fix: Compressor/capacitor replacement

How AFIX diagnoses and fixes an aircon that's not cold

We don't guess. We confirm the cause on-site, then fix it — usually in the same visit.

1

Check the filter and airflow

First thing we check. A blocked filter is the easiest fix. If it's clogged, we clean it. If there's deeper buildup on the coil, we'll move to a chemical wash.

2

Inspect the evaporator coil

We remove the front panel and inspect the coil directly. Heavy dust and biofilm buildup is usually visible and confirms a chemical wash is needed. We photograph before and after.

3

Check refrigerant pressure

Using a manifold gauge, we check the operating pressure of the refrigerant circuit. Below-range pressure indicates a leak. We top up gas and advise on the source of the leak.

4

Test compressor output

If filter and refrigerant are both fine, we check the compressor and capacitor. We'll give you a clear recommendation — repair, replace compressor, or whether a new unit makes more economic sense.

5

Verify cooling before we leave

We run the unit for 10–15 minutes after servicing to confirm it's hitting temperature. You'll feel the difference before we pack up.

Why is my aircon running but not cold?+
The most common reasons are a dirty evaporator coil (restricts airflow and heat exchange), low refrigerant gas (reduces cooling capacity), a clogged air filter, or a faulty compressor. In Singapore's humidity, coil buildup is the most frequent cause — a chemical wash usually resolves it.
Will a chemical wash fix my aircon not cooling?+
Yes, if the cause is a dirty evaporator coil — which is the most common reason aircons lose cooling in Singapore. Chemical wash flushes out the coil completely, restoring heat exchange. If the problem is also low refrigerant, we'll top up the gas after the wash.
How much does it cost to fix an aircon that's not cold?+
A chemical wash (the most common fix) costs $60 for 1 unit, $50/unit for 2 or more. Gas top-up (R32 or R410A) is from $80 if needed. If there's a compressor or PCB fault, we'll diagnose and quote separately. We don't charge a call-out fee for diagnosis.
Can you fix my aircon the same week?+
Yes — WhatsApp us your unit count and block and we'll confirm a same-week slot. Most "not cold" issues are resolved in a single visit within two hours.
My aircon was cold before, now it's warm — what changed?+
Gradual loss of cooling over weeks or months usually points to coil buildup (especially if it's been 6+ months since the last service) or a slow refrigerant leak. A sudden loss of cooling is more likely a compressor or capacitor fault. Either way, we diagnose on-site and advise before starting work.
