Rattling usually means a loose panel or blower debris — fixed during the service visit. Humming or grinding points to the fan motor or compressor. We diagnose on-site and tell you exactly what it is before touching anything.
The type of noise tells you a lot about the cause. Here's what each sound usually means — and what it takes to fix it.
We work through the causes in order — starting with the most common and easiest to fix. You'll know what's wrong before we start any repair.
We run the unit at different fan speeds to identify where the noise is coming from — casing, blower, indoor fan motor, or outdoor compressor. Different sounds point to different causes.
We check all panel clips and the casing for looseness. If the panel is rattling, we re-clip or tighten it on the spot. This resolves a large proportion of noise complaints in a few minutes.
We open the unit and inspect the blower wheel for debris buildup or lodged objects. If that's the cause, we clean it during the service visit. Heavy buildup is visible — we photograph it before and after.
If the noise is a hum or grind rather than a rattle, we test the indoor fan motor. We'll tell you if the bearing is worn and whether a replacement motor is cost-effective versus the age of the unit.
If the noise comes from outside, we inspect the compressor and mounting pads. Loose mountings can be tightened. Compressor faults are quoted separately — we'll give you a clear recommendation before any work proceeds.
Most rattles are fixed as part of a standard service. Motor and compressor work is quoted on-site after diagnosis — no surprises.
WhatsApp us what the noise sounds like — rattling, humming, grinding — and we'll tell you what it likely is before you even book.
